Terry's Chocolate Orange Candy Bar Review
Popular Snacks from the UK

When I think of the perfect Christmas stocking stuffer of my childhood, I think of Terry’s Chocolate Orange. This classic British treat has been around for almost 90 years, and in 2013 Terry’s released their chocolatey-orange goodness in bar form. Terry’s milk chocolate is flavored with orange oil. The chocolate is good quality and melts in your mouth. The orange flavor compliments and blends with the chocolate perfectly. It is distinctly orange without tasting overly fake or processed. Terry’s Chocolate Orange candies are one of my favorite British snacks!

In homage to the candy’s original orange shape, Terry’s Orange Chocolate Bar is designed to look like a row of overlapping orange wedges. Honestly, it’s really cute! The single bar (pictured here) is the perfect size, and you can easily break off one ‘wedge’ at a time.

History of Terry's Chocolate Orange - A Classic British Snack

Terry’s signature Chocolate Orange was created in 1932, but the company’s history goes back much further! York, England – 1767: Bayldon and Berry Confectionery shop opened selling sweet treats including candied lemon and orange peels. But, Joseph Terry only joined the company 45(ish) years later. In 1828 it was renamed ‘Terry’s’, as we still know it today!

Despite the popularity of the Chocolate Orange, Terry’s actually first tried a chocolate apple! This treat never took off, and instead we have the Chocolate Orange that is still wildly popular today. In 2013 Terry’s expanded the Chocolate Orange line, introducing candy bars with biscuits, white and dark chocolate and more. Today the company is owned by the France’s Carambar & Co. Fun Fact: Over 44 million Chocolate Oranges are sold each year!

From 1932 until 2005 Terry’s produced their Chocolate Oranges in the same factory in York. Since closing, the factory was converted to a housing complex. Details of the complex were designed to reflect the site’s history, and a chocolate orange shaped statue even stands on the property.
