Nabisco Glucose Biscuit - Snack Review
Must-try Cookies from Bangladesh

Biscuits are a big deal in Bangladesh, and Nabisco is one of the oldest brands still making these sweet treats! Nabisco’s Glucose Biscuit has a simple, sugar cookie flavor, but is one of the most beautiful tea biscuits I’ve ever seen. Each biscuit has a light sweetness with a good crunch. They are a bit dry alone, but are perfect for pairing with warm tea or cocoa. (For my U.S. readers – we would probably refer to this type of snack more as a cookie than a biscuit.) Nabisco Glucose Biscuits are perfectly simple. A great snack for tea time with friends or family and definitely a hit with kids.

Nabisco Glucose Biscuits come in shiny purple packaging that is sure to catch your eye. (Originally it was pink.) There is also a bunch of green grapes on the package. I initially figured these were grape-flavored biscuits, but not all at. Honestly, I am not sure why the grapes are there… Let us know in the comments if you have any ideas! Each package has another layer of wax paper covering, with about 10 to 12 biscuits inside.

The pretty design on top of the biscuits was a pleasant surprise! One side is a flower-like pattern, alongside vertical ridges and a Nabisco “N”. This touch of detail is a nice compliment to the simple flavor and texture.

Bangladesh's Booming Biscuit Industry

Bangladeshis love biscuits. According to LightCastle, a Bangladesh-based consulting firm, recently the biscuit industry has been experiencing a 15% annual growth rate! Eating biscuits with tea is a common past time, and there is a lot of competition, including large corporates and small-scale bakeries. Nabisco was one of the earliest brands to hit the market in Bangladesh. Their Glucose Biscuits were already popular in the 1980s and 1990s. Currently Nabisco holds about 8% of the market share locally (according to The Business Standard).

Note that Nabisco in Bangladesh is Nabisco Biscuit and Bread Factory Ltd, not the same as the U.S.'s National Biscuit Company that was shorted to Nabisco by the 1970s. The two have different logos and different corporate entities.

Increasing biscuit consumption is on factor, but import prices of flour, oils and sugar also have strong effects on the biscuit industry’s profit margins. Read LightCastle’s article to learn more about Bangladesh’s Biscuit industry!

Nabisco Glucose Biscuit - The Perfect Snack for Dipping

Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, melted chocolate – all great options for dipping these biscuits into! Alone Nabisco’s Glucose Biscuits are a bit dry, but after a dunk your warm beverage they are great! Or, the design and ridges are perfect dipping into a bowl of melted chocolate. The act of dipping biscuits brings back so many fond memories: tea with gramma, breakfast of childhood, and so many more. If you’re trying these Nabisco Glucose Cookies, don’t forget a drink!
