Sweet. Shrimpy. Crunchy. Spicy. Super addictive! Oishi’s Spicy Flavor Prawn Crackers are one of my all-time favorite packaged snacks. These prawn-flavored crackers are lightweight, but they still pack a solid and satisfying crunch. Pop one in your mouth, and first you will taste a combination of sweetness and prawn flavor. Take a moment to appreciate this initial combo. Then, crunch a little more, and the spice will start to appear. It’s a back of mouth / throat spice with a bit of kick. (But not too bad!) The spice compliments the Prawn Cracker’s overall flavor instead of masking or overpowering it. If you are a fan of shrimp/prawn flavored snacks, Oishi’s Prawn Crackers Spicy Flavor are a must-try!
How Are Oishi Prawn Crackers Made?
These crackers are not just relying on artificial prawn flavor. There are legit prawns ground into the crackers! The dough for these snacks is a combination of wheat, prawn/shrimp, corn starch and tapioca starch. This mixture is flattened into sheets, left to sit and then dried, roasted and seasoned. Brief History of Oishi Prawn Crackers
Oishi’s Prawn Crackers have been on the market since 1974! For over 45 years this snack has been a family favorite in the Philippines and increasingly around the world. Prawn Crackers were actually the first snack produced by Oishi! International expansion began in China in 1993 where the company is known as Oishi Shanghaojia (上好佳OISHI). According to the China Daily, Oishi Shanghaojia holds over 25% of the market share for similar snack foods in China. Oishi has continued to expand to being produced in other countries throughout Asia as well.

Although Prawn Crackers are one of Oishi’s oldest products, their marketing is definitely up on the times! Earlier this year (2020) Spicy Flavor Prawn Crackers were trending on social media due to influence @HotHipon. A hunky-looking man with a shrimp head filter masking his identity, @HotHipon launched the Tiktok #HOTtawChallege.
